01 Acceptance & eligibility
By downloading, installing, or opening Community Service Learning (CBC) (the "App"), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you don't agree, please don't use the App.
The App is built for learners following Kenya's Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), many of whom are under 18. If you're a minor, we ask that you use the App with the awareness of a parent, guardian, or teacher, consistent with how you'd use any school tool. If you're a parent, guardian, or teacher setting the App up for a student, you're confirming you have the authority to do so.
These Terms work alongside our Privacy Policy, which explains what data the App collects (short version: almost nothing leaves your device). Read both — together they're the whole agreement between you and us about the App.
02 The app & your license to use it
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on your own Android device, for your own personal, educational use as a CBC student, teacher, or supporter of CBC learning. That's it — that's the whole grant.
You may not:
- Resell, sublicense, rent, or lease the App or access to it;
- Use the App for commercial purposes without our prior written permission;
- Copy, modify, decompile, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the App, except to the extent a law you're covered by expressly allows it;
- Remove or obscure any proprietary notices in the App.
Core features of the App may be offered at no cost while others — including optional premium content such as revision documents — are available for purchase. We may add, change, or remove free or paid features (including entire Toolkit tools) as the App keeps developing — see Section 9.
Purchases
Where the App offers something for purchase, we'll show you the price before you pay. Purchases are processed through the app store you installed the App from (such as Google Play), and are subject to that store's own payment, billing, and refund policies rather than ours.
Anything you purchase is licensed to you under the same terms as the rest of the App — for your own personal, educational use, not for resale, redistribution, or sharing outside your own use. We may change what's free, what's paid, and how much paid content costs, as the App develops.
03 Your content stays yours
Your profile details, journal entries, service log, photos, and everything you build in the seven Toolkit tools (Action Research, Budget Calculator, Conflict Resolution, Data Collection, Decision Wizard, Leadership Assessment, and Social Enterprise Plan Builder) belong to you. We don't claim any ownership, license, or rights over it.
That's easy for us to promise because, per our Privacy Policy, this content is stored locally on your device — we simply never receive a copy to claim rights over in the first place.
If you use Portfolio Export to generate a file and choose to share, print, or upload it elsewhere (to a teacher, a school platform, a USB drive — wherever), that sharing is between you and the recipient. We're not a party to it, and once it leaves the App, these Terms no longer govern what happens to that copy.
04 The AI Hub
AI Hub (Reflect, Brainstorm, Roleplay, and Review Plan) sends your messages to a third-party AI model to generate a reply — see our Privacy Policy, Section 3 for exactly how. Using it means agreeing to a few AI-specific rules.

Fair use
The daily limit exists so the AI Hub stays available to everyone sharing the same quota. Don't try to script around it, spin up multiple identities to multiply your quota, or otherwise abuse the limit — we may throttle or suspend AI Hub access tied to an anonymous ID that does.
Since AI Hub identities are anonymous by design (see the Privacy Policy), any such suspension can only ever be tied to that anonymous ID, never to you personally.
05 Acceptable use
Most of this is common sense, but here it is written down.
Please do
- Use the App for your own CSL learning, planning, and reflection
- Use AI Hub thoughtfully, and treat its replies as a starting point, not a final answer
- Tell us if something's broken, unclear, or unsafe via Settings → Send feedback
- Keep your device and its lock screen secure, since that's what protects your locally-stored data
Please don't
- Submit illegal, harmful, hateful, or sexually explicit content to AI Hub
- Attempt to extract API keys, prompts, or backend logic from the App or AI Hub
- Automate, script, or bulk-send requests to AI Hub to bypass the daily limit
- Use exported journal or portfolio content to harass, impersonate, or embarrass another student
- Use the App in any way that violates your school's own code of conduct
06 Our content & intellectual property
The lesson text, videos, audio, case studies, Toolkit templates, illustrations, and overall design of the App are our original work, or content we've curated and licensed for CBC learning. They — along with the App name, icon, and branding — remain our property (or that of our licensors).
Your license under Section 2 lets you use this content inside the App as intended. It doesn't give you the right to extract, redistribute, republish, or repackage lesson or case-study content outside the App without our written permission.
If you believe something in the App infringes your intellectual property rights, contact us — see Section 13 — with enough detail (what content, where in the App, and what right you hold) for us to look into it.
07 Disclaimers
Nothing in the App — including a Reflect conversation, a Roleplay scenario, or a Review Plan critique — constitutes professional, legal, medical, psychological, or financial advice. It's an educational companion, not a substitute for a qualified adult's judgment.
Toolkit outputs (budgets, decision scores, leadership assessments, and similar) are learning aids to support your own thinking, not certified or guaranteed-accurate calculations to rely on for real financial or legal decisions.
08 Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App — including lost data, if you haven't kept your own copy of something important (Portfolio Export exists precisely so you can).
Our total liability to you for any claim relating to the App is limited to the amount you paid us for the App or any purchase within it in the 12 months before the claim arose — which, for anything you haven't paid for, is zero. Some jurisdictions don't allow this kind of limitation, so parts of it may not apply to you.
09 Changes to the app
We're actively developing this App, so features change. We may add, modify, or remove a Toolkit tool, lesson, or AI Hub mode; adjust the AI Hub's daily limit; or change which third-party providers power AI Hub (currently Supabase and OpenAI) — for example if pricing, availability, or terms on their end change.
Because everything outside AI Hub is stored locally, changes to the App generally won't touch data you've already saved — but we can't promise every future update will be backward-compatible with old data forever.
10 Termination
You can stop using the App anytime, simply by uninstalling it — there's no account to cancel and no retention flow to sit through.
We may suspend or restrict access to AI Hub for a specific anonymous session that violates Section 5. Because we don't hold any identity behind an AI Hub session beyond an anonymous, unnamed ID, any such action is necessarily limited to that ID, not to "you" as a person.
We may also discontinue the App entirely at some point in the future; if we do, these Terms end for you at the point you stop being able to use the App, and Sections 6, 7, and 8 survive that, since they're meant to keep applying to anything that already happened.
11 Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, reflecting the App's home in the CBC curriculum it's built for. If you're using the App from outside Kenya, you still keep whatever consumer protections are mandatory under the law of where you live — this section doesn't take those away.
12 Changes to these terms
If we change these Terms, we'll update the "Effective" date at the top of this page, and call out material changes in the App's release notes. Continuing to use the App after a change means you accept the updated Terms; if you don't agree with a change, the right move is to stop using the App and uninstall it.
